And if the wide sandy beaches and crystal clear waters weren’t already enough, Gallipoli also has a charming and picturesque historic centre, perfect for evening walks or immediately after spent the day at the beach. Like many other seaside town in Puglia, the historic center of Gallipoli is also divided into small, narrow but very pretty streets. The first is Punta della Suina, a true spectacle of nature. This beach is rightly called the “Ionian Caribbean”, because it seems to be on a tropical beach. It is possible to rent pedal boats to explore the wonderful nearby coves.

Another very beautiful beach in Gallipoli is the famous Baia Verde, also characterized by long stretches of light sand and transparent waters. In the evening, Baia Verde transforms itselft into an open-air disco where the fun can continue with the sound of music and sips of cocktails.

Let’s now move on to Rivabella, a beach also immersed in the spectacular scenery of the Mediterranean scrub. Also here, the expanses of white sand and shallow waters are ideal for those who want to have fun with their children.

Lido San Giovanni is one of the most renowned beaches in all of Salento. The bathing establishment allows you to rent umbrellas, deck chairs and sun loungers and use showers. It is also possible for guests to park their boats in the small dock.

Another very famous beach is Lido Conchiglie, a rocky as well as sandy beach, which makes it ideal for the wildest souls. It takes its name from the presence of numerous shells in the northernmost part.

Finally, Punta Pizzo, another wonderful beach in Gallipoli, is part of the Regional Natural Park of the Island of Sant’Andrea, where the Mediterranean scrub dominates in all its beauty.

Getting around in the city

Gallipoli is one of the liveliest cities in Salento: in summer it is advisable to travel on foot and only take the car if you want to visit nearby places. The large influx of tourists from all over the world also makes parking difficult, so the best solution is to move on foot.

In fact, even from nearby cities you can book a shuttle to Gallipoli, in order to reach the beautiful village without having to bring your car with you.

As for public transport, in Salento taking buses in the summer, when there is a high influx of people, can be a nightmare adventure, so it is totally not recommended.

What to see near Gallipoli?

There are many places to explore near Gallipoli. Once you have seen all the city’s amazing beaches and, within walking distance, there are the Maldives of Salento at Pescoluse. This place is quite rightly considered a paradise because here you can really feel like being in the Maldives. All sports enthusiasts can do water sports, practice yoga at dawn or sunset.

Not far from Gallipoli, there is Lecce, the city of Baroque style. This style is characterized by the use of Lecce stone, made of limestone and warm colours. There are several points of interest to admire in this city such as, the Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace and the Seminary building.

Drinking a coffee or enjoying an aperitif in one of the bars of the beautiful Piazza Sant’Oronzo is a plus. Here you will find the Palazzo del Seggio, also known as the “Sedile”. Then there are several churches: Santa Maria delle Grazie and San Giuseppe. Finally, there is the Castel of Charles V, built in the 16th century at the behest of Emperor Charles V, which actually is home to numerous exhibitions.

Let’s continue by mentioning Porto Cesareo, a very popular summer location. The sea here is a gem, the sand is fine and white but the real flagship is the old village. Tourists can rent bicycles or tandems for getting around in comfort and taking a tour.

Finally we would just like to mention Porto Selvaggio, a natural park that includes 432 hectares of coastline, 268 of which are pine forests surrounding the wonderful beach.
